130 Series Litho Passenger Cars    (Circa 1923-1928)

No. 131  Baggage

Circa 1923-1924 - Green roof, early trucks.

Circa 1924-25 - Plain orange litho with orange roofs, m style trucks without journals.

Circa 1925-1928 - Plain orange litho on m style trucks with journals. To the best of our knowledge the 131 baggage never came on a solid frame car with snake pull couplers.

No. 130   Buffet Car

Circa 1924-1925 - Orange litho on m trucks without journals.

Circa 1923 - the green roofs on the orange bodies were probably only made in 1923 and used in sets with a dark green 3253.

Circa 1924-25.

Circa 1925 - it's unusual to see an orange car with a green roof and journal trucks, but it's possible and here's a picture.

Part of the Green Mountain Express came with a 3255 in green.

Circa 1925-1926 - Another example of Ives using up old parts. This one has a pre-1923 body with the rivet detail on a later frame using late m style trucks with journals.

Note red litho on door windows

Circa 1925-1928 - All orange body and roof on open frame with journal m style trucks.

Note the solid frame.

Circa 1929-1930 - Not cataloged in 1928 and 1929, these cars were cataloged for separate sale in 1930. Ives / Lionel used the cars in numerous uncataloged sets. Note the solid frames with snake pull couplers and journal trucks.

No. 129  Saratoga  Car

Circa 1923 - the green roofs on the orange bodies were probably only made in 1923 and used in sets with a dark green 3253.

Circa 1924-1925 - Orange body and roof, m style trucks without journals.

Part of the Green Mountain Express came with a 3255 in green.

Circa 1925-26  -Earlier green body on a later frame with journal trucks. Note that this is a Saratoga car with an observation deck. Below is a No. 129 Saratoga that is just a parlor car and is actually much more difficult to find.

Circa 1925 - This observation that is a converted 129 Saratoga car has post 1925 trucks, but no journals. This is the only 129 series cars we've found with these trucks.

Circa 1927-1928 - All orange with journal trucks, open frame and standard couplers.

Circa 1930 - All orange car with solid frame and snake pull couplers

132 Observation Car

Circa 1923-1924 -  Normally you would assume 1923 for an orange car with a green roof, but this is an observation which supposedly didn't exist until 1924, something has to give

Circa 1924 - Orange body, Orange roof, no journals. This looks like the cars pictured in the Ives 1925 catalog, but if you read the text, it says that the cars came with journals, so this is most likely 1924.

Circa 1926 - This car is easily the rarest on this page. Green litho with rivet detail, but journal trucks, observation platform and lettered No. 132 OBSERVATION. Most collectors are familiar with the 129 Saratoga Car pictured below that has been converted into an Observation, but the car above defies explanation.

Circa 1927-1928 - 132 observation in orange with journal trucks and open frame.

Circa 1930 - The last version of the 132 observation has a solid frame and Snake Pull couplers.

This unusual car is part of a set found by Lou Hertz in the Ives factory after it closed.
