The litho from the early cars is on the left, Note how the lines go through the lettering and particularly the line between UNION and LINE. The lithograph on the right has what I call the 'Halo' lettering. The lines don't go through the area where the lettering occurs and there is no line between UNION and LINE

The same is true on the right side of the box car - here the later halo lettering is on the left. Below is the right side of an ACL car, note that the 'Halo lettering' is on the left.
